TEAM CANUCK
6. NICKELBACK: is the hottest band in the country. This mega group came on strong at the end of the year. They saw there album top the charts for weeks; there single PHOTOGRAPH was a monster hit; their promotional tour saw them cross-Canada in one day with stops in Halifax, Toronto, Calgary & Vancouver. The album was also a huge international hit. Their greatest achievement was becoming the first Canadian band, since BTO in the '70s, to reach No.#1 in USA. The new year will continue with a world tour (which I"ll be at) and a number of Juno nominations.
5. CORNER GAS: this comedy about small town life in Saskatchewan continues to grow in popularity. The show is the No.#1 comedy in the country (even bigger then THE SIMPSONS & EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND); ratings continue to grow with it crossing the 2 million point; numerous guest stars from PM Martin to The Tragically Hip; DVD sales for Season 1 & 2 are huge; the show merchandise is in great demand; won the Gemini Award for Best Comedy; CTV had huge ratings for the documentary about the series. The show has also resulted in the cast doing a cross-Canada promotional tour for the DVD & the launch of the Corner Gas Comedy Tour. The shows cast is in great demand and are popping up everywhere from TV movies (Gabrielle Miller in ONE DEAD INDIAN), TV dramas (Eric Peterson in THIS IS WONDERLAND), and Hollywood movies (Fred Ewanuick in JUST FRIENDS). There is no stopping this show.
4. CANADIAN IDOL: is the No.#1 Canadian TV show of all time. Season 3 continued the huge success of the previous two. The show has made Ben Mulroney, John Dore, Sass Jordan, Farley Flex, Jake Gold & Zack Warner household names. It has also launched a number of recording careers. In 2005 saw at least 7 past competitors release albums, including gold recordings by Theresa Sokyraka & Hedley (Jacob Hoggard) both from Season 2 and Season 3 Idol, Melissa O'Neil, and runner-up, Rex Goudie. The Idol-craze will continue in 2006.
